CCI soil moisture project mentioned in the "WMO statement on the status of the global climate in 2012"

The United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have recently recognised the importance of the use of Earth observation satellites for soil moisture monitoring and its relevance for global climate modelling.
This is reflected with a dedicated section being devoted to this topic within the WMO's latest annual report on the status of the global climate. Please see pg 32 of the WMO statement on the status of the global climate in 2012.
